Mermaid Parade Costume Contest
AHOY, YE SCALLYWAGS AND SEA MAIDENS! THE MERMAID PARADE BE UPON US ONCE MORE, AND WE BE ON THE LOOKOUT FER THE MOST DARING PIRATES, ENCHANTING MERMAIDS, AND ALL MANNER OF WATER CREATURES TO JOIN OUR GRAND COSTUME CONTEST! IF YER HANDMADE CREATION BE FIT FOR DAVY JONES' LOCKER, THEN SET SAIL AND ENTER THE FRAY!
In partnership with the Downtown Marshall Association, Beacon of Hope presents the Marshall Mermaid Parade Costume Contest. Leading up to one of Marshall’s BEST days of the year, the Mermaid Parade & Festival, create a mermaid, pirate, or water creature costume with treasures from Beacon’s Thrift Store. Each ticket entry gets you a store voucher to choose supplies to go towards your costume!
How to Enter:
For the whole month of May! Sign up at Beacon of Hope’s Thrift Store during business hours (Monday-Saturday 10-4 PM) to enter, $25 CASH OR CHECK ONLY. You’ll receive a $20 Beacon Thrift Store voucher upon registration to gather supplies(clothing & household wares). You can use other supplies of your own too, but your costume must be a handmade creation.
Judging:
Based upon creativity, originality, effort, and thriftiness! Six category winners will receive prizes and an additional six category winners will be announced honorable mentions. All winners will receive Beacon of Hope Merch…plus bragging rights.
WHEN: SATURDAY, JUNE 1ST
CONTESTANTS ARRIVE @4 PM
JUDGING BEGINS @4:30 PM
WHERE: 115 Blannahassett Island Rd. The Marshall High Studio gravel parking lot under the big white tent where the Seafood Competition will take place 1-3 PM. $5 of each seafood competition entry will go to Beacon’s Food Pantry, so be sure to get a food ticket beforehand! Lots of tasty treats.

We love our Beacon community. From our clients, volunteers, to board and staff. Each of these people show support in their own way.
A long-time supporter of Beacon has offered to donate $100 for every 10 people who donate, regardless of the amount. Another local donor has offered to match EVERY donation received that is at least $500 through the end of 2023

We could not be more excited to announce that we have found our FOREVER HOME...!!!
The purchase of our new space will allow us to deepen our roots within the community and build equity, creating additional sustainability and security for our organization.
The Nitty Gritty Details:
Where? The property Beacon is under contract to purchase, is located at 5111 US 25/70 (the old "Bee Fit" gym/"Mattress by Appointment" building).
The space is 4,800 sf and has enough space for our soon-to-be upgraded thrift store, our food pantry, AND the laundromat, which will remain open to the community, while being brought into the folds of Beacon's programming as a laundromat collective.
When? Beacon of Hope's due diligence period ended March 31st, with an anticipated closing date for our new home on April 27th.
To that end, we reaching out to YOU, our community, asking for your help to make our dream come true!!
There are several renovation projects necessary to open up the space that will serve as our food pantry, a client choice shopping space needs to be constructed, carpet removal, floors sanded and sealed, a bay door installed, new paint job for our new beginning, signage, parking lot paved and sealed, additional parking spaces chalked off, on top of all of the expenses related to moving an entire on-site 7-day-a-week operation, and securing the final funds necessary for our down payment...WHEW!!!
If you are able to make a financial contribution, that would be absolutely FANTABULOUS!!!
First 100, $50 donations will receive a Beacon of Hope sticker
